Data Transfer / Migration and Secure Data Deletion
Data Transfer and Migration

Data transfer means moving data from one device to another device. For example, when you replace your computer, you probably will want to copy your files, settings, email and so forth from the old computer to the new one. That's called migration, and it's a type of data transfer.
Data transfer is not very difficult, but it does require that the technician know what to save, where to find it, and where to put it on the new computer. This is especially important when moving from one operating system to another, for example, when migrating data from Windows XP to Windows 7, because the filesystems are set up differently in the two systems.
Secure Data Deletion / Destruction
Secure Data Deletion is the intentional destruction of data using methods that make it permanently irrecoverable. This is also called, "secure erasing" or "hard drive sanitization."
The most common reason why clients want to intentionally destroy their data is because they have replaced their computers and want their personal data removed from the old one so they can discard it, donate it, or recycle it. Discarded computers are gold mines for identity thieves and other criminals, and simply formatting the drive won't remove the data. That's why smart users call a professional to make sure that their data is permanently and irrecoverably deleted before they discard an old PC.
Digital Copier Security
Most people are unaware that digital copying machines, fax machines, and multifunction machines often contain a hard drive that stores copies of documents copied, where they can easily be recovered by identity thieves or other criminals when the machines are returned from lease, discarded, or re-sold. To avoid theft of sensitive information, the hard drives on these machines should be securely deleted prior to their being taken out of service.
Important Note
It's important that you understand that once RJM Tech Support securely deletes your data, it will be irrecoverable by any known means. Our secure deletion protocols exceed U.S. DoD and NSA standards. Long story short: Once we erase your data, no one, and we do mean no one, will be able to get it back for you. So please be sure that you have backed up anything you might possibly want from the drive before you turn it over to us.
All clients requesting secure data deletion must complete and sign the Secure Data Deletion Service Order, a printable copy of which can be found here.
