So, what happened?

I accidentally deleted pictures or other important documents, and I need them back.
My hard drive (or flash card, memory stick, etc) was accidentally formatted.
The hard drive is fine, but the operating system is hosed. I need the data recovered.
I used the computer manufacturer's recovery disk to reinstall Windows, and now all of my stuff is gone!
My computer doesn't see the hard drive.
The hard drive is (or was) clicking, buzzing, grinding, getting very hot, or smells like it's burning.
The hard drive was dropped, immersed in water, or otherwise physically damaged.
